dont even get me started with Jennie, who I actually did smooch with. she was so diffirent! Inner city gal.
holy shit. I forgot about her! I want to forget again.shhh. she never happened... dammit. that night, I was so terrified, I spent more time trying to pet her dog even when she was in my lap. she finally forced me to to kiss her. and she kissed so good.... It went on for maybe hours or days.
I can't believe I forgot about her!

She one day called asking for my sister, and we ended up chatting for a while, and next thing I knew, I was at her place.

I asked her to go horseback riding with me a few days later. It all sounded perfect, until she got her really creepy old uncle to come with us. i could see the creepy love between them, and the whole thing went sour.
no wonder I buried that one so deep. I never talked to her again.

I wiped down the corpse of the guy that built the Caddilac empire, and his corpse farted on me. five dollars an hour...
That's just one of the millionare corpes that I rolled over and tended to and cleaned up when they died.
My first job. One day, the pianist was late, so I took over. Not that it mattered. all the residents there were about a breath away from death. I couldn't understand why they clung to life still, as it was so fucking over for them. They just wouldn't give up. but all the nursing aides swooned...
all the wimmins looked at me funny after that.
I eventually had to quit, as I was having working nightmares all night. I was working in my dreams all night, only to wake up and work.
It was horrible. I felt so bad for them, yet at the same time angry that they wouldn't let go. So many of them were very ornery. They were rich guys used to being pampered. well, no time to pamper. I had dozens of other people I had to get up and dressed. Don't even get me started about some of the monster shits. There was a special room with a huge shit smasher....

I remember one old lady in particular. Ida. She was cute as a button, and almost a total vegetable. She couldn't walk or talk, and the poop in her bed was usually full of peas or bits of carrot. She always had this sad desperate pleading look on her face, and would twitch if anything happened too fast, so I had to work with her nice and slow while making small talk. I felt so bad for her, as I could see a totally aware person in her eyes, trapped in her failing body. She just couldn't operate it.
Nightmare stuff. It's terrible that teenagers are hired for that sort of care. One coworker was fired after he was caught trying to smother one of the residents with a pillow. He wasn't even charged with a crime.
Lemme tell you, no teen should ever have to re-insert a prolapsed colon. Oh, I could go on...

...so I will, now that that place is flooding back into view in my memory, dammit.
It was a very high class nursing home. One of the best, I imagine. Not all of my patients were on deaths door. I remember several by name or their antics.
Chester was hilarious. he would walk arouind all puffed up and proud, as if he owned the place, huffing and puffing and leaning on his fancy cane. He got into a lot of trouble one day after feeling up an almost comotose woman who had been rolled over in bed and had a sun lamp shining on her bum due to bed sores.
Apparantly, the nurse left the door open, and Chester, strolling by, went in and copped a feel. His aliby was "If she did't want me to touch it, why was she laying there with a spotlight on it?"
And Selma. omg. She was not only an escape artist, who went around the neighborhood knocking on doors and asking for train or plane tickets, She slapped me more than once, and even chucked a whole pitcher of water on me once. I finally told the head nurse that either someone else deals with her or I'd quit.

Henry. Yes.. a very wealthy old Henry. VERY WEALTHY old henry, was one of my nastier patients. Just spewing vile hate non-stop, yet I had to help him out of his wheelchair and supervise him while he shat. Yelling and screaming every goddamn minute.
One day, after seating him on the toilet and trying to pull the gown out from under him so he didn't shit on it, he started punching me in the face, and I grabbed his hand to stop him, and his skin literally peeled away. I got him back to bed and ran for the nurse, sure that I was going to be fired or something.
She just taped it up and took me off that nightmares list of duties.
Weird thing is that it didn't even bleed. the back of his hand was torn wide open, but there was no blood.

The saddest case was Grace. She was maybe thirty, at most, ans spent most of her time in an iron lung. She was totally normal, mentally. Just doomed to total paralysis. She had a personal assistant at all times, but I was occasionally called in to help move her.
She did have short times outside of the lung. I never asked questions, and just went in, helped, and left. But it was so fucking heartbreaking.
And Gladys. ugh... and Bob and so many others
I HAD TO QUIT!!!! every fucking night I dreamed about work. I was just a teen!

I one day woke up, after dreaming of work all night, and decided that I couldn't do it for even one more minute, and called them up and said bye.
I got a job at Honeywell the next day, for triple the pay and a fraction of the grief, which is where I met Kimberly Anne.
But that's another story...

It wasn't quite triple the pay. I started at 13 something an hour, which was big bucks in the seventies. Teamsters took some of it, of course, but still...
