The first time I heard it, my fifty pound puppy climbed into my lap.
HHe did that now and then. When he was a tiny puppy, he had huge anger fits. I'm pretty sure he was missing his family.
I snatched him from a shelter after weeks of cruising shelters for just the right one during my lunch breaks.
So many right ones! But I was hunting for a son. And I found him.

He was a little devil! A very cute devil. That boy taxed my patience many times.
When I woke up from a nap to find my brand new 100 dollar work shoes shredded, my wife had to do things she normally didn't do to keep me from killing that little shit.
I was so fucking pissed. He spent an hour in the laundry hamper.

What I miss more than anythimg is feeling him sleeping on my chest and his hot puppy breath, and feeling him dream.

He eventually grew up into a big dog. Not too big.
About fiftyfive pounds.
After a very difficult adolescent period, He finally calmed down and became what I forsaw.
He became my son.
There won't ever be another.
